In the research by Scimmie Nude Perversion is analyzed in a way which is far from the narrow area of pathology or the current sexual meanings of society. Interest has been concentrated on Perversion as an inner inborn skill of man, which is able to go beyond the narrow limits of his human condition. Perversion has to be considered as one of the existential means that Man uses to put the frontiers of the possible forward and to prevent reality from being set once for all. Man tries to escape his personal and social condition at any rate, it’s an escape from the laws and the relationships he has established inside and around him.
A table, mirror of the perversions of a family, which turns into a slide, bed and pulpit of a despotic father and at the same time pillory of an oppressed and frightened child. An uncle without a precise identity who persecutes a child, the daughter of an inept and depressed mother. The circus of the perversions of Scimmie Nude. An artistic path achieved also thanks to the collaboration of Ian Magilton and the Roy Hart Theatre, one of the most important voice centers in the world.
The family, the structural pattern which has been chosen, represents our whole society. A family/business of feelings where sexual perversions are only one side of the problem and where Man is at the same time victim and knowledge driving force for his own life. An enigmatic relationship between perversions and creation originates, a creativity which arises from the sublimation of all the sexual instincts we hide. The same artistic sublimation drives us in the show to find out the theatre mechanisms through which a wife becomes the slave of her husband and vice versa making us understand the reason why a father needs to invent power plays to keep his family under control and the reason why a child goes as far as eating his own shit and finally the reason why an uncle doesn’t resist to the innocent naughtiness of a niece.
What drives a human being beyond himself and beyond what we are supposed to call “ normality”?
Man seems to wish to escape the social and personal situation to which he is condemned for all his life, an escape from the rules and the relationships he has established inside and around him.
Each of us has a heart of perversions which can be activated under specific personal and historic circumstances. Humanity is depraved in itself and that hidden peculiarity often comes out at a social level. It seems at least necessary to look into this field, considering the way we are overwhelmed by various events and relationships and by the freedom of the body, heart and spirit, freedom which prevents us from really choosing and therefore from being.
