The Circo delle stelle project comes about from an idea by Giacomo Gamba and a meeting with the Scimmie Nude theatre company directed by Gaddo Bagnoli.
The fundamental topics of power and human manipulation are tackled through the original writing of Giacomo Gamba and the cruel craziness of the Scimmie Nude company, taking us on a journey that ironically unveils the timeless mechanisms of our society’s hidden governors. A science fiction story narrates the lives of three hyperbolic characters who are caught up in a time bomb. A sequence of coups de theatre, seeing Claudia Franceschetti and Giacomo Gamba in close contact with Ettore Oldi, a young actor who trained at the Civica Accademia Nico Pepe in Udine, will spark an explosive finale.
Vlad and Lilith, expert, unscrupulous “oper-actors”, at the service of the thought manipulation System, live inside a rigged-up circus/laboratory. From a special platform they perform for the whole planet, bombarding their spectators with repeated visual movements that stimulate and feed their obsessions, while polluting them and stripping them of their precious, free mental energy.
Upon his arrival, the aspiring young new helper Ethan goes into training with his two experienced colleagues Vlad and Lilith. However, not everything will go to plan. Doubt will gradually beset Ethan, about to become the third oper-actor, and form an awareness in him. Understanding the deceit at play, Ethan decides to sabotage the System to put an end to the mind-draining plan. But not everything will go according to his plans either…

The method to build the play requires the constant presence of the playwright so that he, together with the director and actors, can follow every phase of the work. As a result, it is easy to understand what artistic possibilities can be released. The text is generated through creative improvisation, which, in a circle, is in itself generated by the text, so that the talents of the actors, director and playwright work together to create the pièce. Thereafter, the materials are carefully put together and summed up to create the score for the performance. This work is artistically important for all of us to create an inseparable bond between acting, writing and directing.

Through the cruelty and irony of anthropological theatre it is possible to continue investigating man, his behaviour and his transformations. As a consequence, “Il circo delle stelle” investigates concerns that are more topical than ever: the language of culture, of global communication, of technology and the science applied to it. These may be knowledge tools but they are also means of control, they go in the direction of progress but at times they implode and cause us to go backwards. So: culture or disinformation? Reality or illusion? When the sense of communication between men is lost, emptiness and solitude take over. The search for a dialogue transforms into a one-way monologue. Technology helps to realize our desires, but it also creates dependence. Freedom or prison? True myths or false idols? Being or appearing, and then disappearing?
From homo sapiens to homo-video, travelling in a “liquid world”.
“Il circo delle stelle” wonders: “Will humans manage to survive their own actions?”
