“After the success of Homer’s Iliad, this year the Scimmie Nude Atelier is proposing another great classic: Virgil’s Aeneid. A text that certainly needs no presentation and that for us represents the umpteenth difficult challenge, but also the possibility of familiarizing and falling in love with a great work of the past that is as topical as ever. Indeed, some of its main themes concern us in first person.
First of all, the ‘Pietas’ of Aeneas, which represents not only a religious devotion towards the gods, family, and the homeland, but also towards the whole of humankind. It is indeed with Virgil that for the first time the word pietas seems to flow into the sphere of humanitas, to the point of indicating the feeling of solidarity which binds us to all other men, a sentiment boosted above all in adversity and suffering.
The Aeneid is the story of a voyage of hope, escaping from a homeland that exists no more; the flight of mothers, fathers and children towards the dream of a place where they can live in peace. Sound familiar?“
The Scimmie Nude Atelier company is a group of professional actors who are graduates from the Scimmie Nude Theatre School in Milan.
The Scimmie Nude Atelier training course is headed by Gaddo Bagnoli, artistic director of the principal company, Scimmie Nude. The Atelier makes up the fourth and last year of the course, its aim to train young actors in the main company’s working methods and theatrical language. It is the didactic and professional research tool that year on year contributes to the Scimmie Nude’s artistic evolution.
The goal of the Scimmie Nude Atelier is therefore to create a team of young actors and to produce plays that can represent the results of their theatrical research. By so doing, it sets out to guarantee a basis for the actors’ professional careers ahead.
From 2014 to date, the work of the Scimmie Nude Atelier company has concentrated on the great classics, producing professional plays that are offered for distribution, also in schools, with the administrative and organizational support of the Associazione Scimmie Nude.
